Pietrasanta, Italy

The studio SEM in Pietrasanta is a present day glimpse into the history of sculpture. To see master artisans from all over the world working in this studio is very inspirational. Most were using the famous white marble from the Carrara Mountains. All the artists showed a similar respect for the effect that gravity has on an object, sparing no size in carrying out their composition. Elements is a creation with angelic simplicity. The sculpture demands that the viewers remember it is cut out of a larger form. It has a surprising texture that is like a comb that has brushed the surfaces as to show you how to lead your eye around it. I get the feeling like the two pieces fused as one is saying that you can fall back on something every once in a while. Maybe it is saying that you can let your guard down and get support from another source, without feeling ashamed or uptight.
